A retention plate is a removable orthodontic appliance used after treatment with fixed braces to consolidate the effects and prevent the recurrence of malocclusion. The appliance is made of an acrylic plate and metal brackets that hold it on the teeth. The patient wears the plate for a specific period during the day, as recommended by the orthodontist.
